Paul Laus

Paul Laus was born on September 26, 1970 in Beamsville, Ontario. He played major-junior hockey with the Hamilton Steelhawks and Niagara Falls Thunder of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Laus as their 2nd pick, 37th overall in the 1989 NHL entry draft. His NHL career never got started with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 6'1" defenseman played a couple of seasons in the minor leagues with teams in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and International Hockey League (IHL). During the 1993 NHL expansion draft, the brand new Florida Panthers plucked away Paul Laus from the Penguins.

While in the Pens organization, Laus seemed destined to be a career minor leaguer. But the move to the sunshine state was a boon for Laus who got his first opportunity to play in the NHL. He was an integral part of the Panthers team that ended up going to the Stanley Cup finals, providing much needed toughness from the blueline. In the late 1990s, he teamed up with Peter Worrell to form one of the tougher NHL enforcer combos. In his last couple of seaons, he only played a handful of games and retired from the game in 2002. Paul Laus played his entire 9 year NHL career with the Florida Panthers.
